Black Sabbath – Tacoma WA : February 6 2016

I am not sure what to say about the Black Sabbath show last night at the Tacoma Dome…. Toni and I were part of the VIP experience which got some some good swag, early entry into the venue, free beer/wine/ snacks and a sound check with some incredible jams by Tony Iommi, Geezer Butler and drummer Tommy Clufetos. The topper was a great (full) performance of War Pigs with Ozzy coming out and singing during the sound check…this was a real treat as typically during sound checks, the singer does not participate, and to have Ozzy come out and perform to such a small group of fans and Toni and I being just feet from him was an unforgettable experience.

That’s where the fun ended… from then on, when the actual show started, all hell broken loose with the most idiotic, selfish, drunken group of fans (using the word very loosely) that I have even had the displeasure of being in the same room with. I just could not believe the blatant disregard for any sort of self control, personal dignity or care for anyone else but themselves. I realize that this is a metal concert and that there is a certain amount of natural depravity that comes along with that, but this was just over the top. Toni and I stuck it out for as long as we could, but we couldn’t stay for the whole show, leaving about 3/4 way through, right after Iron Man.. too bad to because Ozzy sounded great, and the band, lights and show were incredible.

This was Black Sabbath’s final tour and it’s kind of a bummer to know that we won’t be able to see them perform live again, but what I can say is good riddance to all the loosers who ruin an otherwise great experience.

Bullet for my Valentine/ Asking Alexandria – Los Angeles CA : February 5 2016

It’s been a bit of a dry spell between concerts with this being the first of the year. Toni and I flew down to LA to see one of my favorite bands, Bullet For My Valentine who were performing what they are calling the ‘British Invasion’ Tour with Asking Alexandria and While She Sleeps. They were playing at our all time favorite venue, the Wiltern which is just a classy vintage theater with a ton of vibe and style. We had great seats on the mezzanine right up front on the aisle. Most of the venue was general admission, which gave the folks who were so inclined the ability to mosh, slam dance, crowd surf and otherwise have an incredible physical concert experience….there were three mosh pits going at any one time, which for the size of the floor was something to see. Being up in the reserved seats gave Toni and I what we like, which is to sit, relax and listen to some great music.

Always a refreshing to experience a show with a younger audience to soak in the fresh energy.

Queensryche / Scorpions – Las Vegas NV : October 7 2015

We flew down to Las Vegas mid week to celebrate Toni’s Birthday by seeing two of her favorite bands Queensryche and The Scorpions. Toni has seen the Scorpions in the 80’s in their hay day, but I had never seen them before, and neither one of us had seen Quensryche before. We were actually a little apprehensive with Queensryche as Jeoff Tate and and Chris DeGarmo are no longer in the band and there has been so much turmoil in the band over recent years, but these guys absolutely ROCKED!. I was very impressed with their sound and lead singer Todd La Torre was spot on in my opinion. They played a great set with great hits such as Silent Lucidity, Queen of the Reich, Empire and Jet City Woman. Very impressed with the sound and performance.

The Scorpions came on the stage a little after 9:00pm. The guys had great energy and were everything I expected and more. Rudolf Schenker on rhythm guitar, Matthias Jabs lead guitar and lead vocals Klaus Meine were just phenomenal. They played a great set with many old favorites such as The Zoo , Coast to Coast , Always Somewhere, Wind of Change , Rock ‘n’ Roll Band, Dynamite, Blackout, No One Like You and Big City Nights. Drummer James Kottak did an incredible drum solo on his elevating drum set while playing Kottak Attack

The Encore songs of the show were, Still Loving You and Rock You Like a Hurricane brought down the house…absolutely amazing.

Going to see them in Seattle on Friday!

Neil Young – Seattle WA : October 4 2015

Toni and I have been wanting to see Neil Young for years. We had seen him when he performed with Crosby, Stills and Nash, but we had never seen him perform his solo material, which both of us really enjoy. We were very excited to go to the WaMu theater in Seattle to see him, and had great seats in the front row right behind the general admission section.

We got there and realized that our seats were right behind GA, which was standing room, which meant that we had people standing in front of us the whole night…we didn’t mind it that much, but the people around us were really up tight about it. The two ladies behind us would;t stop talking about how everyone was being so rude and standing in their way…the guy along side of os actually starting telling people to get out of his way….Just a bad vibe around there, so bad we decided to move back 27 rows to our “other seats”.. The crowd there were much more relaxed and what you would expect from a Neil Young show.

We really enjoyed his performance and especially when he performed his old stuff, opening the show with After The Gold Rush, Heart Of Gold, Comes A Time and Old Man. My favorite of the night was Down By The River.

Five Finger Death Punch – Everett WA : September 12 2015

Well, I had to leave town unexpectedly, but Toni and Nicki braved it up and went up to Everett to see Five Finger Death Punch, In This Moment and Papa Roach. They had a great time and I was so happy that they were able to make it…Nicki was even able to meet Maria Brink (lead singer for In This Moment) which was super cool and made Nicki very happy.

Toni was manning the camera for the show and took some great shots.
