Heart/ Cheap Trick/ Joan Jett – Auburn WA : August 26th 2016

Great line-up tonight at the White River Amphitheater with Cheap Trick opening the show, followed by Joan Jett and the Blackhearts and the closing the night was Heart.

Although I have seen all of these bands many times, it was a real treat to see them all at the same time, and they all had fairly decent sets, playing over an hour each.

They all sounded great and put on stellar performances, although I think if I had to rank them tonight, I would have to say that Joan Jett was the best, followed by Cheap Trick…It seemed as though Heart just wasn’t with it tonight with both Ann and Nancy sounding a little tired.

Olivia Newton-John – Snoqualmie WA : August 25th 2016

So tonight wasn’t a night of head banging heavy metal rock, but a night of soft, beautiful soft rock with Olivia Newton-John at the Mountain View Terrace at Snoqualmie Casino.

First of all all, what a top notch, first class venue this was. This was the first time I had been to this particular venue and I was very impressed with everything about it…the size was intimate, the sound was incredible, a beautiful view and the choice of food and drinks were beyond what is typically available at concert venues (and the prices were reasonable). I would certainly look forward to seeing a show here in the future.

Olivia came on a little after 7:00pm opening with two of my favorites Suddenly and Xanadu followed by an amazing set of hits of songs that I hadn’t heard in many, many years. When she started singing Have You Never Been Mellow, it brought me straight back to my preteen childhood of 1975. Of course the crowd completely went crazy with the set of songs from the movie Grease, You’re the One That I Want, Hopelessly Devoted to You, Summer Nights and We Go Together. She wrapped her her show a little before 9:00pm with a very beautiful version of Over the Rainbow from the film The Wizard of Oz.

She put on a simply wonderful show and sounded and looked great.

Guns N’ Roses – Los Angeles CA : August 19th 2016

The Seattle show on August 12th was so good that I had to see Guns N’ Roses again and decided go fly down to LA and see them at Dodger Stadium on Friday August 19th. In Seattle, Alice in Chains opened and last night it was The Cult. I have always liked their music and have never seen them live, so this was an extra bonus to see them along with GNR. They had a very simple stage show, but sounded incredible…as good as I remember from first hearing them in the early 90’s.

Guns N’ Roses came on about 8:20pm and played an incredible 26 song set, finishing up with 4 encores at about 11:30pm. The set was very similar to the Seattle show, however this show had a special guest drummer… Steven Adler (original GNR drummer) who performed on the songs Out Ta Get Me and My Michelle. It was a real treat to see and hear 4 original band members back together.

I stayed through the whole show this time and really glad I did as they played Sorry, Don’t Cry, The Seeker and wrapped up the show with Paradise City which was just an absolutely incredible.

Glad I made the trip down.

VANS Warped Tour – Portland OR : August 12 2016

The four of us trucked it down to Portland for The Vans Warped Tour yesterday. We originally had tickets for the show in Auburn WA., but found out that Guns N’ Roses was also performing that night in Seattle, so we had to see our Auburn Warped tickets and buy for Portland the following day. We have see the show 4 years in a row and hope to be able to see it for many years in to come. It is such a great experience with all the great bands, food, merchandise and of course people watching. The only problem with this year was the heat. It was over 90 degrees and as these shows are held in parking lots, there is typically no shade and is was no different this year at the Expo Center (parking lot) in Portland. We saw many dehydrated kids having to be carried off on stretchers by the very busy emergency response folks.

We all had a great time. We were able to see see most of the bands we wanted to before getting overwhelmed with heat and having to leave. We were able to see Tsunami Bomb, From Ashes to New, We the Kings, Veil of Maya, Motionless in White, Ice Nine Kills and Set it Off. Unfortunately with the conflict in sets, we were not able to see Falling in Reverse and we couldn’t see Issues because we were just too damn hot.

Alice In Chains / Guns N’ Roses – Seattle WA : August 12 2016

Tonights show at CenturyLink Field in Seattle has to go down as one of the best of the year. Both Toni and I agree that this was just an absolutely EPIC show.

I have neven see Alice In Chains and I guess I have forgotten how many songs I remembered and how many. There was such a great energy they had with the hometown crowd who of course knew and sang along with every song. They played a great set of 11 songs including Man in the Box, Down in Would, No Excuses and wrapped their show up with Rooster.

Guns N’ Roses came on around a quarter till nine and absolutely killed it. Toni and I have seen GNR in Vegas with Axl’s new band and we have seen Slash a few times (all were great shows in themselves) but we were so looking forward to this reunion show with Axl, Slash and Duff together again. Slash puts on such a great show and of course Slash and his guitar work is just heaven. One of my favorite parts of the show was the guitar solo with Slash and Richard Fortus performing Pink Floyd’s Wish You Were Here and then transitioning into the final half of Derek and the Dominos song Layla with Slash on the piano. What a masterpiece! And then Slash’s solo of the theme from Godfather transitioning into Sweet Child O’ Mine, simply perfect. All in all I think they played about 25 songs hitting every hit you could ever want to hear. Some of the other memorable songs were Welcome to the Jungle, Live and Let Die, You Could be Mine, Civil War, November Rain and Paradise City.

I am not sure how many people filled the stadium last night, but I know they were all on their feet pretty much all night for this show.

You will notice that I am only posting a few shots of the show….well that’s because I made the mistake of charging my camera on a game console which happened to go into sleep mode 15 minutes after starting charging, so my battery was dead after the first 4-5 pictures…Too bad, but the good thing is I was able to watch the whole show with my eyes instead of through my camera.
